Too bad no one will be around to see it.Ĭlara Clayton: Emmett, do you think we'll ever be able to travel to the moon like we travel across the country on trains?ĭoc: Definitely, although not for another eighty-four years and not on trains. We'll have track under us and coast safely across the ravine!ĭoc: It'll be a spectacular wreck. Therefore, as long as we get the DeLorean up to 88 miles per hour before we hit the edge of the ravine, we'll instantaneously arrive at a point in time where the bridge is completed. I have a real problem with that.ĭoc: Don't you see? The bridge *will* exist in 1985. I mean, we can't wait around a year and a half for this thing to get finished.ĭoc: Marty, it's perfect, you're just not thinking fourth-dimensionally! Marty McFly: Well, Doc, we can scratch that idea. Marty McFly: Right, Doc, but according to this map, there is no bridge. It's perfect, a nice long run that goes clear across the bridge over the ravine, you know, over near that Hilldale housing development. Funny, this map calls Clayton Ravine "Shonash Ravine". This is where we'll push the DeLorean with the locomotive. There's a long stretch of track that will still exist in 1985. Traveling through time has become much too painful.ĭoc: This spur runs off the main line three miles down to Clayton Ravine. We shall proceed as planned, and as soon as we return to 1985, we'll destroy this infernal machine. I cautioned you about disrupting the continuum for your own personal benefit. Maybe we could just take Clara with us.ĭoc: As you reminded me, Marty, I'm a scientist, so I must be scientific about this. Hell, I'm in it with you and even I don't understand it. What are you gonna say to her? "I gotta go back to the future"? I mean, she's not gonna understand that, Doc.
Marty McFly: Up here?ĭoc: You're right, Marty.ĭoc: I've at least gotta tell her goodbye. Marty McFly: So you tell me: What's the right thing to do? I have to live my life according to what I believe is right in my heart. I can't let this one little photograph determine my entire destiny.
Anyone can make their future whatever they want it to be. Marty McFly: This tombstone could still be in your future!ĭoc: Marty, the future isn't written. Doc, we don't belong here! Neither one of us! You know, it could still be you that gets shot tomorrow! Marty McFly: What are you talkin' about, Doc?ĭoc: There's no point in denying it.
